My teaching career began at university while studying for my English degree. I volunteered in a school for my ‘Student Community Action’ group and won ‘Tutor of the year’. This experience inspired me to pursue teaching as a career, so I completed my PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) in KS2/3 English and Primary education at the University of Cambridge.
My first teaching position was in a middle school in Suffolk as a Year 5-8 English and Drama teacher. I worked there for a year before moving to Kent to work in a primary school as a Year 6 teacher. There, I specialized and led teams in Gifted and Talented education, English and Mantle of the Expert (a drama-based inquiry approach to the curriculum). I was there for 3 years before getting married and moving to BISC in 2011, which has been one of the best decisions I have ever made!
Outside of school, spending quality time with my family is my priority. My husband works in the media as a freelance TV presenter and often travels all over the world with his work. We have two beautiful girls, and they are truly the most amazing things to have ever happened to us. It is exciting to see them experience this wonderful school as students. In our free time as a family, we love to travel, spend time outside whether at the swimming pool, taking a walk along the greenway or at the beach and explore the many restaurants Charlotte has to offer. If I were to describe myself in one phrase, it would be as a chocoholic book worm.
BISC is a truly unique school and environment in which to work due to the sense of community, the inspiring curriculum delivered by world class teachers, and the engaged, enthusiastic and eager to learn children that we get to share our days with. Our curriculum here allows me to create strong links between the different subject areas while utilizing brain-friendly approaches. It also gives me the freedom and autonomy to unleash my creativity, which is something I value highly.
