Since qualifying as a Key Stage 2/3 Teacher with specialism in Mathematics from Exeter University in 2007, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of young people of differing ages, abilities and backgrounds. I began my career teaching all subjects in Upper Key Stage 2 but, over the years, have worked with pupils ranging from Foundation Stage to 18-year olds. The majority of my career has been spent working with all age groups with special educational needs. This role has provided me with lots of challenges but has been incredibly rewarding. It also meant that I was able to focus on teaching Mathematics.
When my husband was offered a job in Charlotte in 2018, I began researching work opportunities for myself and was very pleased to discover our British International School. When we first moved here, I didn’t have a work permit, and so I began volunteering at the school. I was given a very warm welcome by all the BISC staff and pupils and was very pleased to be offered a position here teaching Upper School Math as soon as my work permit came through.
Outside of school, I love being outdoors and spend a lot of time walking my dog. In the UK, I loved gardening, but since moving into a new build house in Charlotte, I have not yet had the chance to continue this. I have a blank garden awaiting me, though! I also love to read and enjoy textile crafts and travelling. We have recently bought a (very) small RV and have lots of adventures planned for exploring the US.
