Staff Profile: Charlotte Crossland

Charlotte Crossland

Teacher of English and Head of Year 8

I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in 2009 with an honours degree in English Literature.  After completing my PGCE at The University of Manchester in 2010, I began teaching in a comprehensive school in Warrington, North West England, where I taught for five years.

I graduated from LIMU in 2009 with a degree in English Literature and qualified as a teacher from the University of Manchester the following year. I taught Middle school and High School English for five years, where I cultivated links between the local schools in the community to increase literacy levels and ease the transition between Primary School and Middle School.

As well as teaching English, I was a Progress Mentor, where I monitored the academic achievement of students in the school. This developed my love for the pastoral elements of teaching and the importance of education beyond the classroom.

In 2015, I achieved my Masters in Education before moving to Houston, where I have taught at BISH for 3 years. I am currently the Head of Year 9 and next year will be the Head of Year 8.  I have really enjoyed my time at BISH working with students from all over the world and I am looking forward to working to supporting more students as they progress through Middle School.

In my free time I enjoy visiting the theatre and live music – so Houston is the perfect place for me!  I love to travel and explore new places and cannot wait to experience all of the things this city has to offer.  Keeping fit is also important to me and I regularly participate in a range of fitness activities, such as circuit training and dancing.

What the students say about me...

‘She engages the class and there is not one English lesson which we do not look forward to.  She pays attention to the whole class and yet still manages to talk to us individually’

‘Miss Crossland is a lovely teacher and the verbal and written feedback is given quickly’

‘I’ve learnt a lot in her lessons and I think her way of teaching is effective and fun!  I look forward to the next two years of English.’

This school is different to all others I have worked at because…

There is the real sense of community.  The students are friendly, enthusiastic, polite and most importantly passionate about learning, making this a wonderful place to be.
