Student Council

Students have an active voice in our school. All Year groups from Year 1 to Year 13 have student representatives on either the Primary or Secondary School Council.

Student council members meet every two weeks to develop a range of ideas suggested by students as well as to plan and set objectives that are designed to enrich the British International School of Houston. Our students create the agenda and lead the meetings with support from both the PTSA and designated staff.

Student council members are consulted about school issues such as uniform, meals, and break facilities. They also organize fundraising events such as bake sales in support of charity causes.

  • Student Council

We believe student leadership is one of the central strands of student achievement. From an early age our students are given the opportunity to practice their leadership skills in preparation for their life beyond school.

Learning in our school is not a passive experience. Independent thinking is encouraged. With numerous opportunities to express opinions and promote positive change, your child will develop a deeper understanding of global citizenship and community responsibility.

Student Council Successes

Some recent successes for our Student Council include:

  • managing the roll out of new Primary Playground Equipment funded by the PTSA
  • collaborating with the PTSA and Senior Leadership Team in planning the 2014 Spring Carnival
  • pitching for funding for a new friendship bench which was then built, painted, and installed in conjunction with the Design Technology Department
