We performed big production plays devised from classic literacture, as well as space themed musical theatre to primary school children; I absolutely loved it! But something was missing… I wanted to work withthe children, not just perform to them. I completed my final acting contract in 2008 and moved back to Weston-super-Mare to consider how I might continue on my journey to becoming qualified as an educator. After meeting and working with a team of multi-agency professionals, ranging from Social Care Workers, Play Therapists and Education Welfare Officers, I was completely inspired and seized the opportunity to apply for a PGCE at the University of Worcester. I was accepted onto a course specialising in Early Years education and I have never looked back.
After teaching for a few years in the UK, both in Early Years and later Year 2, my international journey began six years ago when I moved to China and began teaching at Dulwich College Shanghai in Year 1. It was exciting and eye opening and everything I had been hoping for; I made the most of every experience I could. After four years in Shanghai, I was happy to have made my mark. Some colleagues and I had spent a few years raising awareness of global matters by setting up the ‘Green Panthers’ CCA and we celebrated receiving the Silver flag for the International Eco Schools Award in 2017. I also managed the schools Read, Write, Inc. phonics program alongside my position as SEN teacher and felt completely fulfilled in my role. As much as I valued it, I also knew that it was time to leave China and explore another part of the world and it wasn’t long before I had Houston in my midst. The British International School of Houston is a true reflection of my pedagogy, values and ethos: To give every child in my care the opportunity to develop their intellectual, emotional, spiritual, physical and artistic skills to the full, within a caring, supportive, yet challenging classroom environment through a broad and exciting curriculum. Underpinning my philosophy is the belief that all children have the right to an inclusive education that meets their needs and allows them to reach their full potential; I am extremely proud to work within the Learning Support Department.
Since moving to Houston in August 2017, I have become a lot more settled and enjoy my home comforts. However, I still love to travel and explore… I also love to listen to loud music, sing at the top of my lungs and go to live gigs. I enjoy walking the dogs with my partner Will and making regular trips down to the coast.

This School is different to all others I have worked at because…
The students at BISH are truly remarkable. They are excellent comunicators, resilient risk takers and leaders of their own learning. I am excited every day to work with them.
