After joining The British International School of Houston last January on a part time basis to teach IB Psychology, I am very happy to have been asked to take on work in college and career counseling for 2018. Before BISH, I taught for seven years here in Houston and for eleven years in the Middle East, with the last four serving as IB Coordinator.
I have also had a turn as EE coordinator, CAS coordinator and five years of teaching TOK. I have my B.A. from the University of St. Thomas here in Houston and my master’s degree in Urban Education with a Specialization in Social Studies Curriculum Development from the University of Houston. Throughout my teaching career I have worked with my students to help with college applications and it is a very rewarding position. There is nothing better than the smile on the face of a student who comes to tell me they have been invited to attend the college of their dreams. Being at BISH provides me a great opportunity to learn more about college placement outside of the US system.
I began my teaching career after twelve years in the business world including jobs in marketing, personnel, district management, and even owned my own interior decorating business. I love remodeling houses and reading, especially historical fiction and mysteries. But my favorite pastime is travel. My son and I own a copy of 1000 Places to See before You Die, passed on to us from my father. Our book is well handled, dog eared and filled with highlighting and post-it notes. If we don’t get to all 1000, I will pass it on to him and his children to continue the journey.
