Staff Profile: Dewi Bartlett

Dewi Bartlett

Teacher of Physical Education, Head of Year 13 and Head of Air House

I studied Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Wales, Bangor and graduated with an Honours degree in 2005. After completing my degree I joined the British Police force and served as Police constable for almost 4 years.

In 2010 I decided to change my career path and look for a fresh challenge in education. After I completed PGCE in Physical Education also at the University of Wales, Bangor I have been teaching for the past 4 years in North Wales.

I have a real passion for all sports and the role they can play in an individual’s life. I feel sports are about enabling students to understand what challenges them and to identify the tools they need to meet the challenge. Participating in sport and being part of a team can help prepare all students for the future.

One of my biggest passions is travelling and experiencing new cultures. At present, I’ve managed to visit 72 countries across six continents. (I’m trying to save up for a trip to the seventh, Antarctica, it's not going so well though). It's this passion for travelling and experiencing new cultures that has brought me to Houston, as I was ready for a new challenge and an exciting opportunity.

I love all sports, especially football and rugby. I’m a massive Liverpool FC fan and  regularly attended games in the UK to cheer on my team. I’ve played competitive football since the age of 7 and play in a local team here in Houston. As a Welshman I have Rugby in my heart, I’ll never miss a Wales game so you’ll probably be able to hear me singing “Bread of Heaven’ or ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’ (National Anthem) during the Six Nations or World Cup.

What the students say about me...

“Mr Bartlett’s funny, but he keeps us working hard on tasks so we can learn.”

“Mr Bartlett is awesome and one of the best teachers in school as he makes Maths super easy.”

“Mr Bartlett is an amazing teacher in the way that he always smiles and make you feel happy whenever you’re sad.”

“He is always really enthusiastic and encourages you to try your best in all sports.”

This school is different to all others I have worked at because…

It is the first school I have worked in with students ranging in age from 3 to 18. The students are fantastic, truly enjoy learning and are incredibly polite, welcoming and considerate. The diverse range of cultures, religions and nationalities makes the school very special.
