Learning Support Services

The Learning Support Program is designed to assist in developing the academic, behavioral and social development of students identified as in need of extra support.

Program Overview

This is achieved through a continuum of services beginning from consultation with teachers to individualized instruction. Students who may be at risk for learning difficulties are referred to and assessed by the Student Services Team (SST) who will evaluate the areas of concern and formulate goals and/or strategies to enhance student success in the classroom.

Objectives

The Nord Anglia International School Rotterdam (NAISR) Learning Support Program will increase student learning by:

  • Developing the academic, emotional, social and behavioral skills needed for higher learning and problem solving.
  • Providing classroom and/or individualized educational support when needed, focusing on student strengths and learning abilities through differentiated instruction and modification of the existing curriculum.
  • Fostering appreciation, acceptance and respect of all students.
  • Recognizing each student’s exceptionality, diversity and learning modality.
  • Building confidence in the student’s ability to succeed.
  • Developing and strengthening social interactions and skills needed for everyday living.
  • Encouraging personal responsibility for learning and behavior.
  • Offering a learning environment that is supportive, caring and safe.

Support Services

The Learning Support Program will provide a continuum of services, from consultation to individualized instruction. Each student’s level of need will be determined by a collective assessment of the Student Services Team which is comprised of the Head of Learning Support, principals, teachers, parents and/or other related personnel.

Additional Resources

The Student Services Team may recommend a child to have a complete psycho-educational assessment. This is requested if students do not have an updated assessment (within the past 3 years) or the child is demonstrating needs more significant than previously documented. The family will be provided with a list of available resources within the community who can perform such assessments. Currently the school does not employ therapists (speech, physical or occupational) who can provide services for those specific needs.

Admissions Policy of Special Needs Students

The Academic Leadership Team, along with the admissions office, will consider each child’s needs and level of support to determine acceptance/non-acceptance on a case-by-case basis. Previous reports, student/family interview, and academic assessments will be reviewed and will be part of the admissions decision.
