Our School Day

Our school day is designed to offer your child a blend of inspiring academic study and stimulating opportunities in a safe and supportive environment.

Alison reading to class

No two days are the same at our school. But our learning schedule is structured to ensure that all of our students are enthusiastic and engaged with their learning from the first bell.

Official Hours

Official school hours are 08:15-15:05 (Foundation 1 and Foundation 2 finish on Wednesdays at 12:00). The office is open daily from 7:45am until 5:00pm. Each student has recess periods during the day as well as a 45-minute lunch break. Our youngest students eat lunch first at 11:40 and older students thereafter.

Early Dismissals

Once a month on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday throughout the year, the school day ends at 12:00. Early dismissal days are used by the staff to concentrate on curriculum and professional development. The dates are noted on the school calendar.

Morning Drop-Off

Early Years (Foundation 1 and 2_
At the beginning of the year, Foundation 1 and Foundation 2 parents are allowed to accompany their children into the building once the bell sounds at 8:10am. In the second semester, the students are able to wait outside and line up until their teacher comes to the playground at 8:10am to collect them. At this time, the children should come inside without their parents.

Once the children have come inside, they hang up their coats and unpack their bags independently. They change their shoes according to the need for the day. We encourage the children to sign themselves up for a school lunch if needed and to put their bags in the appropriate places.  This builds their self-confidence and independence.
Year 1 - Year 6
Year 1 - Year 6 students may be dropped off at the playground in the back at the school between 7:50-8:10am (Note: There is no supervision for students prior to 7:50am). The 8:10am bell will signal students to line up with their classes.  We ask parents to refrain from taking their children to the classroom.

Secondary School
All students in the Secondary School have a homeroom teacher. They report to this teacher for the first and last 10 minutes of every day (with the exception of Year 12 and 13 who meet at the beginning of the day only). Students should arrive in time to be seated in homerooms for registration at 8:15am.

Afternoon Pick-Up

Foundation 1 and 2
At the end of the school day, parents collect their children from the classroom.
Year 1
At the end of the school day, Year 1 students will be released to parents in the cafeteria.
Year 2 - Year 6
At the end of the school day, parents collect their children from the playground.
Primary students are not allowed to play unattended or use the playground equipment unless supervised. Students may not roam the school on their own.

Rest Time in Early Years

The Creative Curriculum explains, “In full-day programmes, rest time is very important for children. The length of rest time varies. For children who attend school six hours or more, rest time provides rejuvenation for the afternoon programme. Younger children may need more rest time than older students in Early Years.” At NAISR, we support this by providing quiet time everyday for the Foundation 1 and Foundation 2 classes after lunch.

After School

When the school day ends at 3:05pm, students may remain on campus if they are checked into our after school care or have registered for any of our after school activities.

The Nord Anglia International School Rotterdam (NAISR) offers an excellent after-school programme that includes opportunities for students to join a number of sports teams, participate in band, as well as participate in a number of fun clubs and activities that allow students to learn new skills or develop existing ones.

The Co-Curricular Handbook, which is available on our website from September each year, contains details of all Skill Development Sessions, After-School Clubs and Activities that we offer at NAISR.
