Early years

The “Early Years” include our youngest learners — from two years old onwards — and the Nursery and Reception stages, as defined by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum from the UK. Two- to five-year-olds learn in our bright, engaging, playful environment, where our large, open learning spaces and classrooms allow our youngest learners to grow personally, socially, and emotionally.

THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) CURRICULUM
We start your child off on the road of a lifelong learner and develop their numeracy and literacy through exciting play-based activities that encourage natural skills of inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking. We teach phonics, exploring letter sounds using a system called “Read Write Inc.” Our teachers tailor all learning to the needs of every child across seven areas: physical development; communication and language; personal, social, and emotional development; mathematics, problem solving, and reasoning; understanding the world; expressive arts and creativity; and literacy.

LOWER SCHOOL

During Years 1 through 4 (equivalent to kindergarten through 3rd grade in the US school system), we take a holistic approach so your child has the best platform to accelerate their learning.

THE INTERNATIONAL PRIMARY CURRICULUM (IPC)
Our holistic, varied approach to learning under the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) allows your child to accelerate across core academics, the creative arts, and physical exercise. Across varied themes and units of learning, students build their core skills in English and math, and apply these skills to science, geography, history, or social studies. Alongside these academics, students also take specialist lessons in Spanish, art, music, PE, drama, and dance.

Upper School at NAISNY spans Years 5 though 9 (equivalent to 4th through 8th grade in the US school system). During these years, students are at a crucial stage of discovering their independence while requiring the right amount of challenge and support to grow academically and personally. Under the English National Curriculum, our students study English, math, science, Spanish, PSHE, PE, and the arts with specialist teachers, providing greater depth into the concepts, processes, and skills of these subjects.
