In May our Year 3 children had their first experience of the DCIS residential programme, spending the night at Singapore Zoo.
After having seen our older students leave and come back from their residential trips over the year, it was finally time for our youngest Upper Primary students to head out on their first adventure. We are fortunate to live in a location like Singapore, with exciting places just around the corner, and what could be more exhilarating than spending a night at Singapore Zoo!
During the first day, the children were led through many interesting exhibits with a special behind the scenes tour of Reptopia, where they got to handle some of the zoo's friendlier reptiles. Their cooperation skills were put to test when they had to put their tents up, a great team building practice. The children finished their evening at the night safari before 'sleeping with the beasts' at the Singapore Zoo camp ground.
The following day the children were given front row seats at the Splash Show and they also got to visit some of the zoo's well-known African animals.
Apart from it being a fun and inspiring experience, the residential trip also gave the children opportunity to develop their independence and experience sleeping away from home, for many for the first time. Tired, but happy and enthused from their experience, and at least a foot taller in confidence, the children returned to school. As put by Yu in 3KN: "I was worried about sleeping at the zoo at first but I had a fantastic time".
An amazing experience and the children have already started the countdown to the Year 4 Residential, where they will travel to Kota Rainforest in Malaysia!
