Waking up bright and early on Tuesday 26th November, the Year 5 students and staff met at school before travelling by bus, ferry and long boat to Telunas Beach Resort.

It was a pleasant journey over calm seas and through picturesque mangroves. Once we had eaten our lunch and were shown our dormitories, we headed down to the beach to find out which activity group we were in for the week.

Each day we participated in a variety of activities that built our confidence, developed our collaboration skills and further deepened our understanding and appreciation of our surrounding environment. Activities ranged from low rope challenges and team building games to crabbing, shrimping and fishing. Several children caught huge fish and crabs before releasing them back into the sea. Furthermore, whilst we were away, we explored the local Indonesian culture and engaged with traditional drumming, Melayu dancing and traditional coconut pancake making.

The planned activities were balanced with free time at the beach. This was a brilliant opportunity for the students to get to know more of their peers from different classes and to interact and work with teachers and teaching assistants from across the year group. We are currently building on the skills that were developed and the relationships that were formed now that we are back at school.

I was very proud of the Year 5 students who were exceptionally well-behaved, polite and approached all activities with positivity and enthusiasm. Many happy memories made. I would also like to thank the team of staff who all helped make the trip such a huge success.
