For students in Years 12 and 13 Dover Court International School offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) and the International BTEC Diploma in Business.
The two-year IB Diploma programme is an academically challenging, rewarding and highly-respected qualification, recognised by universities around the world. Dover Court offers a wide range of IBDP courses, allowing students to embark upon and develop new areas of interest. Small class sizes and personalised learning ensure student success.
As an alternative to the IBDP Dover Court also offers the International BTEC Diploma Level 2 in Business and from August 2021, subject to CPE approval, will also offer the International BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Business. These two-year vocational courses prepares students either for further study or for the world of work by developing skills that are needed for employment.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) at Dover Court is an accessible and rewarding programme that provides excellent preparation for university education and employment. IBDP students are valued for their high academic standards, in addition, the IB Learner Profile helps students to be become critical thinkers who are open-minded, resilient and reflective and have a greater understanding of the wider world. Throughout the programme we encourage our students to study hard and also to become involved in school and community activities through our Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme. Our highly qualified and dedicated teachers are well prepared to support students in achieving the highest levels during the IBDP. We expect our students to commit themselves whole-heartedly to all aspects of school life so that the DCIS Sixth Form will be an enriching and rewarding experience.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is a full time two-year programme for Sixth Form students. In order to achieve the IB Diploma, all students study six subjects: three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level. In addition, students write an Extended Essay and follow a critical thinking course entitled Theory of Knowledge. Participation in CAS is also required. The IBDP is accepted by universities in the UK, North America, Australia and across the world. Universities and tertiary programmes understand the challenge of the IBDP and therefore ask for a wide range of grades.
DCIS also offers students the option of following the IB Courses programmes, students follow four subjects as well as completing the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Activity Service Programme. Students can choose either Higher Level or Standard Level courses.
The Nord Anglia Education family of schools has 66 schools worldwide with the majority being IB diploma schools. The 2020 IB Diploma average score was 33 points across the schools, higher than the global average of 29.9 points. Furthermore, 10% of these students achieved over 40 points. This is the level of attainment required to gain admission to the world's elite universities.
At Dover Court we were delighted that the class of 2020 achieved an average of 37 points, with a 100% passing rate and the highest score achieved was 44 points.
BTEC International Level 3 Diploma in Business
The Level 3 qualification is equivalent to two A Levels and can either lead to the first step in a career or to University or Polytechnic study. The BTEC International Level 3 will be offered from August 2021 (subject to CPE approval) for appropriate students.
The BTEC qualifications are vocational courses that are thoughtfully designed and delivered to prepare students for either the first step in their career or for further study. The course content is both relevant and engaging, enabling students to develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in today’s dynamic work environment. Assessment is conducted through coursework completed across the two year course duration. Coursework is assessed using a number of formats from traditional report writing, to creative projects such as leaflets, posters and filmed contextual role plays. The course is designed to immerse students in a range of vocational scenarios, equipping them with vital knowledge and experiences for the future.
The course consists of five mandatory units and optional units totalling 240 Guided Learning Hours.
The five mandatory units are:
- Exploring Business
- Research and Plan a Marketing Campaign
- Business Finance
- Managing an Event
- Business Decision Making
Students also complete core and optional units of study with subjects ranging from Planning a Marketing Campaign, Business Decision Making, Event Planning, Human Resources, Financial Statements, Logistics, Career Planning and Health & Safety.
BTEC International Level 2 Diploma in Business
The BTEC International Level 2 Diplomas offer learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that are needed to prepare for employment.
Equivalent to 4 International GCSEs and tailored to the needs of international schools and colleges, the BTEC is designed for learners who wish to explore a work-related vocational qualification or specific industry area.
The two-year full-time course consists of:
- Pearson BTEC International Diploma in Business
- Other functional skills qualifications in English, Maths and ICT as needed (or an opportunity to retake iGCSE qualifications)
- Participation in CAS (creativity, activity and service)
- Time for independent study
To achieve the Diploma, students must successful complete 4 mandatory units and a choice of option units to achieve a combined total of 60 credits.

Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment and grading criteria which are to be used for grading purposes. A summative unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit or distinction.
