Welcome from the Principal
A very warm welcome to Dover Court International School, my name is Christopher Short and I have been the Principal at DCIS since August 2016.
The first time that I came to Dover Court I was struck by how I felt as I walked through the entrance of the school. My initial impressions were of a sense of belonging, of anticipation, of excitement and I immediately knew it was a school community I wanted to be a part of. To this day I still smile every morning as I walk up the steps, I think I have the best job in the world and I know many of our staff share my sentiments.
In some respects Dover Court is the same as other International Schools in Singapore; membership of and accreditations from world renowned bodies, globally recognised and admired curriculum, outstanding learning and teaching, dedicated and passionate practitioners and specialist facilities designed to inspire every child. But there are also some things that set us apart and make Dover Court very special place to be.
Dover Court is not a selective school, we welcome students of all academic abilities and it’s because we offer support for many different academic, social and emotional needs that our student population is incredibly diverse. Our school community reflects the wider global community and everyone benefits from this. We foster students who are empathetic, accepting and understanding, qualities that we all hope our children will have as they grow up and forge their own independent paths in the world.
Accepting students of all abilities does not mean we are any less ambitious for every single learner. We will not only have students who will graduate with more than 40 points in the IBDP programme and gain entry to the world’s top universities but also we will support students for whom success will be marked by acquiring the skills and qualifications to allow them to secure productive and fulfilling jobs and subsequently have independent lives. Every learner achieving their potential and doing their very best. No goal too small. Equal achievements in our eyes.
This unique environment means that here, at DCIS, there are no ordinary students, they are all extraordinary. Students find their wings at our school. In being ambitious they can be who they want to be and we encourage and support them whole heartedly.
Nurturing ambitions, celebrating diversity is our motto. It is the life blood of our school and it drives and motivates every member of the Dover Court community every day. I invite you to come and visit our school and see outstanding teaching and learning in progress and savour the unique atmosphere that we are so very proud of.
