Mrs Rachel Edwards

Rachel Edwards

Head of Secondary

Rachel graduated from the University of Surrey in 1993 with a BA joint hons degree in History with Sociology. She achieved her PGCE Secondary from the University of Glasgow in History and Modern Studies. Rachel completed the ILMP Senior Leader programme in 2013 and is completing her MA in Educational MA (Applied Leadership & Management), University College London​. 

Originally from South Wales, Rachel taught in Widnes, England. Her introduction to international education began in a new British school in Brunei in 1998. In 2001 Rachel joined one of the founding FOBISIA schools in Penang Malaysia where she began to teach the IB Diploma and assumed pastoral and curriculum leadership roles. Her senior leadership journey began in 2008 in Taipei, Taiwan, where as Assistant Head she focused on student well-being, pastoral care and student leadership. In 2011, Rachel assumed the role of Deputy Head and later Head of Secondary at British School Jakarta. As a strong advocate for international education, she has been privileged to teach and lead in international schools in Asia for over 23 years. 

Rachel joins DCIS from Dulwich College Beijing, where she served as Head of Senior School for three years.  

Throughout her career to date, Rachel has initiated and contributed to a range of curriculum and well-being innovations and development in schools. Relentless in pursuit of providing world-class learning experiences and excellent support for all students to achieve their personal best, she seeks to develop positive, collaborative school cultures where all are supported and challenged.  

Experienced in school accreditation and with broad interests, Rachel has volunteered on the ICPTF (International Child Protection Taskforce), the entitlement of all children to feel safe and belong is key to her approach in schools. As a leader and learner, interested in the potential of coaching in schools, she is currently participating in a leadership mastermind connected to international school leaders. 

Rachel has two sons and is joined in Singapore by her New Zealand husband and her youngest son. As a third culture and cross-cultural family, Rachel values the opportunities that international living offers to connect with cultures, people and places. She enjoys travel, reading and photography and is very much looking forward to life in Singapore.
