Gracie Gao

Gracie Gao

Head of Primary Mandarin (Full Time)

Gracie gained her Bachelor of Arts in Teaching Chinese as A Second Language from Nankai University in China, and then completed her Master of Teaching at University of South Australia.

Originally from the northern city Tianjin in China, Gracie moved to Australia in 2008 for further study. Gracie started her teaching career in Adelaide before she moved to Melbourne in 2013.

As an enthusiastic curriculum practitioner, Gracie initiated the Chinese programs at two primary schools in Adelaide and Melbourne. During her time as the Assistant Head of Languages at Mentone Grammar School, Gracie led the team from a range of backgrounds to promote the learning of languages throughout the whole school. She provided clear goals to the team, reflecting the school values, strategic plan and the national curriculum.

Gracie is a passionate language teacher of both Chinese and Japanese wand she strongly advocates for a student-centred learning approach. She has extensive teaching experience at primary and secondary schools in both independent and public sectors across Australia. Having taught in different educational settings, Gracie's principle of pedagogy is that education should be tailored to suit the individual needs and learning styles of students. She also empowers her students to take the ownership of their learning.

Gracie enjoys exploring nature with her family. She is also a keen traveller, loving to experience different cultures. Gracie also loves to watch movies; Ghibli Studio movies are her favourites.
