Staff Profile: Jonathan Carswell

Jonathan Carswell

Primary Physical Education Teacher (Full Time)

Jonathan graduated from Northumbria University, Newcastle with a BA Honours Degree and went on to complete his PGCE in Primary Education at York St John University.

After graduating, Jonathan worked in an inner-city London school, where he undertook the role of PE Coordinator. During this time he developed and implemented a new form of assessment framework and schemes of work to improve children’s physical literacy as well as leading extra-curricular activities to increase participation in physical activity. Developing and building a love of sport and exercise that will continue into later life underpins Jonathan’s teaching philosophy.

Having previously worked as a class teacher, Jonathan believes in making his lessons enjoyable, allowing the children to explore and investigate the subjects they are learning, allowing them to shine and achieve what they are truly capable of. Jonathan likes to be involved in the wider school community as well as coaching the newly founded school rugby team to great success.

Outside of school, Jonathan enjoys playing and coaching a range of sports, including rugby and squash, as well as making the most of working in Southeast Asia by exploring Singapore and the neighbouring countries.
