DCIS House System

Our House System encourages students to work together as a team and to strive to do their very best in school-based activities by charting success in sports, academics, social and creative challenges.

  • DCIS Houses

The DCIS House System encourages students to work together as a team and to strive to do their very best in school-based activities by charting success in sports and elsewhere.

Our motto for the House System is:

Believing. Achieving.

The four DCIS Houses are Jurong, Kranji, Newton and Ubin, all named after Singaporean neighbourhoods. All students will be assigned to one of these Houses.

Located in the West of Singapore, Jurong was industrialised in the early 1960s as part of the economic upturn of post-war Singapore. The Jurong mascot is the Oriental Pied-Hornbills, the only wild hornbills found on Singapore. Hornbills eat fruit and have black plumage along with a large, long bill.

Kranji is a suburb in the North West of Singapore and is the home of the Kranji War Cemetery as well as the Kranji Racecourse. The Kranji mascot is the Leopard Cat , the last remaining wild cat species found in Singapore. Their unique coats help them blend into the shadows of surrounding vegetation.

Newton, named after Alfred Howard Vincent Newton, is located in the Central Region of Singapore and is home to the famous Newton Food Centre. The Newton mascot is the Gecko, a reptile native of Southeast Asia which can be seen climbing walls in search of insects.

Pulau Ubin, also simply known as Ubin, is an island situated in the North East of Singapore. The Ubin mascot is the Long-tailed Macaque, a primate whose tail is longer than its body, is found throughout Southeast Asia. Sir Thomas Raffles gave the animal its scientific name.

During the week the children will represent their House, both on the playing field and elsewhere. Totals will be announced at each Friday assembly, with the winning House retaining the DCIS Cup for one week. At the end of each term, the overall winning House will receive a prize.

House Captains will be elected for each House, and these captains will provide positive leadership for all the children in their House. Various competitions and events will be organised throughout the year as part of this initiative.

At DCIS, the House System promotes:

  • Shared aims and goals
  • Collaboration, teamwork and co-operation
  • Participation in competitions and sport
  • Growth in self esteem
  • Inclusion

House announcements will be made at the weekly assembly and students can follow their progress on the House Page of the website and on the House Board at School Reception.
