Coming so early in the season the challenge was always going to be high against a school that has been training for a much larger period of time. Under the guidance of Mr Kienhuis, the boys gave an excellent account of themselves and grew in confidence and game understanding throughout the fixture.
The most pleasing aspect of the whole event were the reports of the outstanding attitude, sportsmanship and respect shown by both teams. This really highlights an area of importance to myself and the sporting department at our school. Sport is not all about the result, it’s about a process. Successful athletes are resilient and respectful, they are ambitious and committed, hard work and effort run through all that they do.
Interestingly, this aligns with many of our whole school values which I know have been shared with you. These traits will underpin much of our sporting programme this year and beyond. The development of an individual person and the way they conduct themselves when under pressure and the ability to respond and react positively to challenge whilst showing respect for an opponent are far more important traits than any result could ever be. We will demand hard work and commitment from our student athletes but the rewards will hopefully be seen both in the sporting arena and beyond.
Congratulations to our U19 boys Volleyball on a great start to their season. #beambitious
