A-Levels at The British School Warsaw

At TBS Warsaw, our 16 to 18-year-olds have the option of studying for their A-Levels.


Students select three or four A-Level subjects, which allows them to focus deeply on the areas that match their academic strengths and future ambitions. This specialised structure is a key feature of the British educational system and prepares students for university style learning.

Alongside their subject studies, students receive guidance on university pathways, research skills and academic writing, ensuring they are well prepared for the next stage of their education. The A-Level pathway is particularly well suited to students who prefer to specialise in a smaller number of subjects and build strong expertise in their chosen fields.

The programme is designed for students who are ready to take greater responsibility for their learning and want to prepare for university pathways both in Europe and internationally. 

Students at The British School Warsaw can choose from a range of A- Level subjects across different academic areas. Our current subject offering includes: Psychology, Business, Geography, Travel and Tourism.

ASSESSMENT

Students working towards A-Levels in Warsaw are assessed through a combination of examinations and, in some subjects, coursework or practical components.

Most A-Level subjects are assessed through final written examinations at the end of the two year course in Year 13. These exams evaluate a student’s ability to apply knowledge, analyse information and develop well structured arguments.

Some subjects may also include coursework or project work completed during the programme. These assessments allow students to demonstrate research skills and independent thinking.

  • What qualifications do your teachers have?
    We only hire experienced teachers with a degree in teaching or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the UK, or the equivalent from their home country. Most of our teachers are native English speakers.
  • Are A-Levels recognised internationally?
    Yes. A-Levels are accepted by universities in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America and many other countries around the world.
  • How are A-Levels assessed?
    Assessment usually takes place at the end of the two year programme through written examinations. Some subjects may also include coursework or project based assessment.
  • What afterschool activities do you offer?
    Through our Learning Enrichment Activity Programme (LEAP), we offer a variety of extracurricular activities every day of the week, including sports, music and creative workshops.
  • How does the school support university applications?
    Students receive personalised university guidance throughout Years 12 and 13. This includes support with course selection, applications, personal statements and interview preparation.
  • What is the difference between A-Levels and the IB Diploma Programme?
    A-Levels allow students to focus deeply on a smaller number of subjects.

    The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme offers a broader curriculum across six subject areas alongside core components that emphasise research, reflection and global perspectives.
