Alongside two teams from our school, we welcomed teams from Bratislava, Budapest, International College of Spain and The American School of Warsaw. The round-robin phase of the tournament began on Friday and ended Saturday morning, throughout which, all teams played against each other to qualify for Saturday’s play-offs.
Each match played on Friday was highly competitive as all teams displayed similar volleyball skills making the tournament greatly balanced. Unfortunately, despite each set being tense to the very last second with final scores often just two points apart, neither host team managed to qualify directly for Saturday’s finals.
Nonetheless, both teams had chances for second place in the overall Nord Anglia portion of the tournament and thus both teams set out even more motivated than before on Saturday. Saturday’s first match unfortunately settled to be both teams from our school facing each other and hence only Team A managed to advance and challenge Bratislava for second in the Nord Anglia Tournament.
Following a tense match with a tie-break set, our school’s Team A managed to be victorious and acquire second place in the Nord Anglia 2019 Tournament just behind Nord Anglia winners Budapest and overall winners American School Warsaw. Alongside the matches, the teams visited down-town Warsaw on Friday evening and dined at Baziliszek whilst congratulating the most valuable players from each competing team. Overall, the tournament displayed high levels of volleyball and was a valuable experience for all players.
