This week in Year 1 we have honed our Science skills and expanded our knowledge of materials and grown in understanding of their properties.

Having described and sorted the properties of a range of clothing materials we then chose 4 materials at random and began to test how waterproof they were.

Using pipettes, the students put an equal amount of water onto each material and then measured the amount of water to seep through.

The students declared the PVC material to be the most waterproof and this matched their hypothesis and predictions.

With their new understanding the students suggested "we can make coats and umbrellas out of PVC".

We will see if these scientific findings are used in their fashion design and tailoring later in the unit.
