The days of greeting someone with a hug or a handshake seems a long time ago, even though in reality, it has only been a few short weeks.


 As our lives have moved online, from doctors visits to quizzes via Zoom or chatting with grandparents on facetime, one thing that can’t be replaced via video is human touch. The article below explores the effects of touch deprivation (or skin hunger as it is called here), why touch is so important, and what to do if you are experiencing touch starvation – from simply cuddling a pet or stuffed animal, or using a weighted blanket or shoulder wrap, or through using apps that provide virtual hugs. Remember, we can still foster meaningful emotional connections even when we are physically apart.
