1) FOREST App- Stay focused, be present
This is a great app if you want to stay focused on one non- virtual activity but are tempted by your phone and social media. The app allows you to choose the amount of time you want to stay focused and will count down the minutes while planting a virtual tree. The longer you stay off your phone the larger the tree grows.
This app will also allow you to donate “virtual coins” to a real tree planting organisation so the longer your stay focused the more real trees you can help plant. In this way the app allows us to improve our own concentration skills while helping the environment.
2) Mindfulness Coach App- Grow your mindfulness
This is a great app if you would like to learn how to be more mindful, or you want to continue with your PSHE mindfulness practice. The app uses the visual of a growing tree to encourage users to continue to develop their practice. It also has a lot of good information about mindfulness if you are new to the practice.
“Mindfulness means noticing and paying attention to what is going on in the present moment, without passing judgment on it. Mindfulness has been shown to be effective for reducing stress, improving emotional balance, increasing self-awareness, helping with anxiety and depression, and coping more effectively with chronic pain.”
3) Ecosia- Plant trees while you search the web
Although this is not technically an app this is a great online search engine that allows you to use something that you do every day, search the web, to benefit others and the environment. Nearly 95 million tress have been planted so far which is good for the environment and provides people in need with a reliable source of income.
