The British International School is excited to announce renovation projects totaling more than $2.2 million during the 2018-19 academic year. We look forward to keeping you up to date with the latest progress. Phase I has begun and includes changes to the kitchen and canteen, primary school library, learning hub, lab spaces, and the lower playground. Phase I is scheduled to be completed in August 2018.
Kitchen and Canteen
BISW will add a new kitchen facility to provide an on-site space for freshly prepared, healthy food. The canteen will feature new serving facilities and a coffee shop which will serve both students and parents from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flik Independent School Dining will operate the kitchen and provide school meal plans and catering options.
Library & Learning Hub
The primary school library will move to a larger location on the first floor. Adjacent to the library's new location, the walls of the old resource room will be opened up and turned into our new Learning Hub. This space will be specially configured for self-discovery and collaborative learning . Flexible seating and workspaces will allow the area to serve a variety of educational purposes across the entire primary school.
General Science and Physics Lab
The wall between the physics lab and general science lab on the second floor will be removed, creating a larger wet lab for science courses. The weight and exercise room outside the D&T lab will be converted into a new physics lab with movable workstations to allow for a wide range of experimentation in the space. Secondary students who once utilized the exercise room will continue to have access to Balance Gym for exercise.
Lower Playground
A new climbing frame will be added to the lower playground and the existing climbing frame will be repositioned. The area around these two climbing structures will be resurfaced for safer play.
Phase II
Phase II will begin later this academic year and focus primarily on finishing out the basement floor. This phase will add a dance studio, boys and girls changing facilities, a multi-purpose area, and more. We hope to share more details about phase II after the school year begins.
