Raising Global Changemakers: How PBIS Students Become Future Leaders and Global Citizens

Everything Starts With An Opportunity

As Louise McCloy, Primary Deputy Head and European Regional Lead for Social Impact, says:

"Students at PBIS are encouraged to become responsible global citizens who understand that their actions can create lasting change."

This belief is reflected in daily school life at PBIS. From classroom projects over student leadership opportunities or local charity partnerships to international collaboration through Nord Anglia Education, students are encouraged to move beyond awareness and into action. 

Student voices matter

Students can drive change when they feel empowered to share their ideas and bring them to life.

At PBIS, opportunities such as the Student Council, Sustainability Teams, and TEDx Youth events enable students to contribute their perspectives, participate in meaningful discussions, and influence their school community. Our Student Council, for example, includes representatives from Years 7 - 13 who act as a bridge between students, teachers and school leaders. They advocate for their peers, support school-wide initiatives and communicate key decisions and actions back to students. 

One particularly inspiring example came in March 2026, when students organised and delivered the Model United Nations (MUN) conference across the Libuš Campus, and Prague City Hall. Bringing together delegates from schools across Europe, through diplomacy, leadership, and public speaking, participants demonstrated how young people can use their voices to inspire meaningful change. 

Creating Impact Through UNICEF

A key element of our social purpose is our collaboration with UNICEF. Through curriculum activities, clubs, campaigns, and fundraising initiatives, students explore children´s rights, social responsibility, and global development while taking action. 

The opportunities can go far beyond supporting a campaign. Aristea - a student from PBIS has been selected as a member of UNICEF CZ´s Youth Advisory Board for year 2026.

This year, four students represented PBIS at the Nord Anglia Education (NAE) Summit in Houston, Texas. The summit is organised in collaboration with UNICEF and brings together delegates from across Nord Anglia schools to develop leadership skills and explore global challenges linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students develop projects they present to UNICEF representatives, peers and global experts, and implement them in their schools upon return.

Experiences like that help students understand that global issues are not distant or abstract. They are connected to real people, real communities, and real opportunities for action.

Thinking globally, acting locally

While students are encouraged to think globally, they are equally encouraged to make a difference close to home. 

Our partners are also local charities and community organisations such as Happy Hearts, Friendship Prague, Dignity, ACORUS, and Klokánek. Through these experiences, students build empathy, leadership, and a sense of responsibility, while developing connections to local communities and initiatives.

Taking Action for Sustainability

Across all PBIS campuses, students and staff work together on projects and campaigns that encourage more sustainable habits and responsible decision-making.

The Eco Club plays a leading role in these efforts through organising educational assemblies, hosting Eco Fairs, gardening initiatives, and exploring renewable energy projects for our school campuses. These projects directly support key Sustainable Development Goals the school has committed to. 

The commitment and leadership shown by our students have been recognised through the achievement and continued retention of the Green Flag Award, which celebrates excellence in environmental education and student-led sustainability initiatives.

The purpose of Social Impact at PBIS is to help students discover what matters to them, better understand the world, and realise that their actions, large or small, can make a positive contribution. Along the way, students develop confidence, empathy, leadership, and problem-solving skills that will support them throughout their education and beyond.
