The children in Early Years have been having great fun accessing lots of different learning linked to the theme of ‘Magic and Monsters.’ After reading the Julia Donaldson book ‘Room on the Broom’ the children applied skills of designing and making as they created their own fancy broomsticks with additional features such as sparkly lights, seats, sat navs and a fridge! There have also been opportunities for speaking and listening and role play in the potions lab and the children particularly enjoyed getting scientific when adding ingredients to their own potions and watching the effects! The outdoor ‘mud kitchen’ was put to good use as the children mixed up magical spells using natural ingredients. There have even been opportunities to develop basic mathematical concepts as children counted eyes, horns and legs as they drew their own monsters. The children have been so engaged with their learning and have enjoyed letting their imaginations go wild!
Now, where did I leave my magic wand…?
