Kathryn Anderson will visit Regents for 3 days in October

Introducing our amazing Juilliard Curriculum Specialist One of the most exciting outcomes from The Juilliard Continuing Professional Development was that we got to meet our Juilliard Curriculum Specialist, Kathryn Anderson, who is linked to our school and will be working alongside the Regents Music Staff to introduce and embed the curriculum. Kathryn will be visiting us 3 times this year and is very excited about her first trip to Regents at the end of October.

Kathryn Anderson will visit Regents for 3 days in October

These are very exciting times for the Music Department.  Regents Pattaya is an inaugural school for the new Juilliard-Nord Anglia Music curriculum.  So what does that mean for us?

Emily Andrews has been part of a team of Nord Anglia Education teachers since March who have been collaborating with The Juilliard School to design a Music curriculum structure specifically for Nord Anglia Education students.  In the summer, all the Music Staff from Regents got the opportunity to spend a week in New York to work on how we can use and embed its curriculum.  It was a truly inspiring week which exceeded all of our expectations and allowed Regents’ Music Staff to use their expertise to work with the Juilliard Staff to consolidate this collaboration.

One of the most exciting outcomes from The Juilliard Continuing Professional Development was that we got to meet our Juilliard Curriculum Specialist, Kathryn Anderson, who is linked to our school and will be working alongside the Regents Music Staff to introduce and embed the curriculum.  Kathryn will be visiting us 3 times this year and is very excited about her first trip to Regents at the end of October.  She is also one of the amazing Juilliard team who are populating the Juilliard Creative Classroom with fabulous specialist resources for our staff and students to work with.  We have made a start with this already and many of our students have interacted with videos of Juilliard Alumni performing Music especially for our students.

Kathryn Andersen is a violinist from Pittsfield, Massachusetts. She received her Masters Degree in Music from The Juilliard School and her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Harvard University.   Kathryn has worked as a professional violinist both nationally and internationally.  Kathryn is also a dedicated teacher and has served as a Teaching Artist through the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall. She taught in New York City public schools in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island. Kathryn also spent six years as a violin and viola instructor.

We are so lucky to have so many amazing opportunities.  If you want to ask Kathryn any questions, or ask any questions about her visit, log onto Moodle, go to the Secondary Music area and click on the Extra Curricular category.  You will find a link to a personalised message from her recorded especially for Regents students.  Please take the time to ask your questions there and we will get them answered.

As our exciting collaboration with The Juilliard School has begun, the Secondary Music Department have been thinking of innovative ways to get students involved and thinking about music.  All KS3 students and Secondary Staff were asked the question “What Does Music Mean To You?”  It was amazing the variety of answers we received, showing the powerful impact that music has on so many different people.

So why don’t you take a few minutes out of you day to consider what music means to you!

Ms Morand

... " Music allows me to take a break from reality. Some music make me sad but most makes me happy. For me, it is the essence that perfumes my days. "

The start to the term has been an exciting and busy one for all involved in the Secondary Music Department.  We started on Sunday 6th September at the Jesters Fair where the fabulous Musicians from Regents volunteered themselves to get up on the stage and entertain the visitors at this annual charity event.  Congratulations should go out to all the participants: Year 8, Nehmat, Debbie and Anya for a great acoustic set.  Year 9, Nae Nhae and Kate opened the whole event singing the King’s Anthem.  Year 10, Sofia, Chloie-Therese, Zoe, Surotama and Camille did two numbers to get the crowds dancing and Gaby took to the stage to sing a solo by Birdie.  Angie from Year 11 performed a stunning solo and our Regents’ contributions were finished off by two fantastic performances from our Year 11 Rock Band of Aryut, Tim and Stephan, fronted by Chloie from Year 10 for one song.  Well done to all involved!

The entertainments co-ordinator, Richard Rhodes said this of our students :

“A big thank you for your excellent contribution to the huge success that was Jesters CFK 18....the standard of acts from the schools has risen in a remarkable way in a relatively short time”.

It was not even a week before our next musicians entertained, this time, it was at our Parent’s Coffee Morning.  Two accomplished pianists entertained as Regents’ parents mingled with our staff.  A huge thank you to Mary Park, Year 7, back from New York after participating in the Nord Anglia Global Orchestra.  Another thank you must go to Ayuki Ohno who was our Global Classroom Advanced Solo Performance winner.
