As a Roundsquare school, we offer number of trips all over the world to achieve IDEALS of Roundsquare which are Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service. A group of students from year 7 -12 have travelled to the Maldives to take part in a plethora of activities in the spirit of the Roundsquare IDEALS under the supervision of Mrs Morrow and Mr Johnstone.

Internationalism has been central to the Maldives trip. Aside from the fact that students left the hustle and bustle of Pattaya and travelled to the isolated yet scenic shores of the Maldives, they have also completely immersed themselves into Maldivian culture by spending time in a Maldivian fishing village (where they will catch and cook their own fish). Truly global citizens, students from Regents will come back from this trip with knowledge of Maldivian food, culture and a taste of the local music.

Democracy and teamwork are synonymous in regard to our students. In the Maldives they have been participating in many group challenges such as a desert island treasure hunt where they will be delegating responsibility to one another and working as a unit and persevere through numerous challenges.

Environmentalism has been a difficult theme for students to understand. Students are learning about coral reef ecosystem and clearing an uninhabited atoll of sea garbage with the critical situation of coral reef of the Maldives. Students are also learning about the eco systems on the land and by planting trees, students will help the environment.

Adventure will for sure be a key focus for our young adventurers as they snorkel local reefs and embark on an interisland kayak voyage. They will journey through the waters of the Indian Ocean and into numerous islands in an experience that will no doubt stay with them the rest of their lives.

Leadership is an essential skill not only in regard to school life, but in regard to life. Students are given specific leadership responsibilities in term of enlightenment of leadership.

Service is one of the key philosophies we advocate for here at Regents and in true Regents fashion students will be planting trees to stop coastal erosion in an effort to help in the fight against global warming and to give back to the global community.

Having done all of the aforementioned activities the students partaking in the Maldives trip will no doubt come back with an unforgettable experience, one that will stay with them throughout their lives.
