Regents International School Pattaya is proud to announce that its students have successfully completed an unforgettable Silver International Award expedition as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program. This remarkable achievement took place in the heart of northern Thailand, where students together with teachers, embarked on a 2-day unsupported pack rafting journey along the stunning Ping River.
What is the Silver Level of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award?
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a globally recognized program that empowers young people to develop resilience, leadership, and essential life skills through service, physical activity, and adventure. The Silver level is the second stage of the Award, designed for students aged 15 and above. It challenges participants to:
- Commit to personal growth through skill-building and physical activity.
- Engage in meaningful community service, making a positive impact.
- Complete an adventurous journey that tests endurance, teamwork, and problem-solving.
This level encourages students to step outside their comfort zones and embrace challenges that foster independence and confidence.
Preparation for the Expedition
Before setting off on this incredible journey, Regents students underwent hours of swimming training, including learning essential techniques for water safety. They also designed meal plans, checked and packed their expedition kit, learned first aid and practiced pitching tents to ensure they were fully prepared for life in the wild. This thorough preparation was key to their success and safety during the adventure.

The Ping River Adventure
During this expedition, Regents students navigated through lush Thai jungle terrain, faced rapids, and camped under the stars. The journey demanded resilience, teamwork, and courage—qualities that every participant demonstrated with pride. This achievement highlights not only their physical endurance but also their ability to support one another and thrive in the wild.
"The Silver International Award expedition in Thailand is more than an adventure—it’s a transformative experience. Watching our students navigate the Ping River, overcome obstacles, and collaborate in such a stunning environment was inspiring. Their achievement reflects resilience, leadership, and the adventurous spirit that defines Regents learners," said Mr. Patrick McKenna, Head of Experiential Learning at Regents International School Pattaya.
