Exciting Pen Pal Exchange Between 3rd Prep Dickinson and College Champittet

Building Global Friendships Through Letters and Learning
Students from 3rd Prep Dickinson have had an enriching cultural exchange through Nord Anglia’s pen pal program with students from College Champittet in Pully, Switzerland. This initiative has allowed students from both schools to connect, share experiences, and learn about each other’s cultures.

The exchange began during the Christmas break when students wrote letters to their pen pals, introducing themselves and sharing their holiday traditions. Since then, they have continued to communicate, exchanging messages to get to know each other better.

In addition to their letters, students from 3rd Prep Dickinson embarked on a special project to create an audiobook about the Dominican Republic. This project was inspired by their studies in Sociales during February, the patriotic month. Students gathered information about various topics related to their country, wrote their texts, edited their work, and practiced their presentations before recording them.

The entire project was completed during Language Arts classes, where students followed the workshop model to draft, revise, and refine their work. This experience not only enhanced their writing skills but also deepened their appreciation for their own culture while sharing it with their Swiss counterparts.

Having a pen pal provides numerous benefits, including improved writing and communication skills, cultural awareness, and the opportunity to learn about a new country. It also fosters empathy, global citizenship, and meaningful connections between students from different parts of the world. This resource is available through the Nord Anglia resources provided to teachers, offering valuable tools to facilitate global learning experiences and enriching cross-cultural exchanges.

This pen pal exchange has been an incredible opportunity for students to develop their communication skills, foster international friendships, and celebrate cultural diversity. We look forward to continuing this collaboration in the future!
