The Dragon Effect is about more than what students learn in the classroom. It is about the people who believe in them, the opportunities that challenge them, and the experiences that help them discover what they are capable of becoming.

Marcio has been an SGS Dragon since first grade, and throughout his years at Saint George School, he has continued to grow as a curious, determined, creative, and compassionate young man. His journey is a reflection of the Dragon Effect in action — a combination of guidance, opportunity, and encouragement that has allowed him to discover and develop his strengths.

Along the way, teachers have played an important role in that growth. Ms. Thais encouraged Marcio to aim higher, while Mr. Rosario taught him that excellence comes through perseverance and a commitment to giving his very best. Ms. Fireley inspired him to lead with empathy and use his talents in service of others.

Other experiences helped him discover strengths in unexpected places. Teachers Alondra, Brenda, and Andy helped him find his voice through the Performing Arts, giving him the confidence to step onto a stage for the first time. He embraced science through the school’s MIT experience program, while his determination and teamwork helped him thrive on the volleyball court.

With every experience, Marcio has continued to expand his interests, strengthen his skills, and gain confidence in what he can achieve.

Now, as a rising junior and member of the Class of 2028, he is taking those strengths beyond the SGS campus.

This summer, Marcio interned at Caribbean Pharmaceutical Company (INFACA), gaining firsthand experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He worked in both manufacturing and quality control, learning about protocols ranging from small-scale developmental drug testing to large-scale processes designed to prevent cross-contamination.

For Marcio, one of the most valuable parts of the experience was seeing how the industry works from the inside and understanding the processes behind it.

“My favorite part yet has definitely been getting to know how the industry works from the inside, as well as the processes that go with it.”

And as he reflects on this experience, Marcio recognizes the role his SGS education has played in preparing him for opportunities like this one. He noticed that his formation and teachers are a key part of why he has made it this far.
