Lindsay Conway

History and Life Skills Teacher & 10LC Tutor

I graduated MA (Hons) in Politics & History from the University of Glasgow in 1992 and spent the next 18 months working and volunteering with disabled youth. In 1994 I returned to Glasgow to qualify as a Teacher of History and Modern Studies, gaining my PGCE (with Distinction) from the University of Strathclyde in 1995.

I spent the next 8 years teaching in mainstream and special schools in the west of Scotland, including as a Senior Teacher with responsibility for S1/2, before deciding to seek new challenges working in international teaching in 2003.

I was lucky enough to be studying for my MA during the collapse of communism in Europe. For me personally it was an exciting idea to live and work in the former Eastern Bloc. Professionally the move allowed me the opportunity to work in a small but fast growing school and take on new roles and responsibilities.  Currently, as well as teaching History, I am also the Lead Teacher in the Secondary School for the Nord Anglia Global Classroom. The world our children are being educated in is very different from the one we experienced; and having a thriving, safe and supportive community where students can learn in new, non-traditional ways has been professionally rewarding, encouraging me to reflect on, and develop, my own pedagogical methodologies.

As fellow parents will sympathise, I now spend most of my free time commuting between my daughters’ ballet, riding, music lessons and play-dates! However in the BC (Before Children) era, I was a keen sportswoman myself, playing women’s rugby at Club and District level. I was also – briefly but never-the-less-excitingly – once the top ranked female fencer (Foil) in Scotland. I am also a passionate advocate of adoption, and have had the privilege in Slovakia of working with an advocacy group to promote adoption and to assist other expatriate families with the adoption process.
