It has been yet another busy week of sport at St Andrews International School Bangkok. Read on for details of our exploits at the Primary FOBISIA Games as well as the first ever Mini Marlins Mayhem, gymnastics and tennis competitions. There is also advance information on squad trial dates for the start of the next academic year.
Our 40 Primary FOBISIA squad children traveled to Phuket for 3 days of sport last week. It was a great opportunity for our children to compete against some of the best young athletes in Asia and to compete against FOBISIA ‘A’ schools for the first time.
And what an amazing week of sport it was. The children have trained hard for 6 months and the results were spectacular, finishing the most successful school out of the 7 schools involved. The determination, resilience and love of sport shown by our STA children was infectious and inspiring. Other than getting to compete at the highest school level in Asia and winning lots of individual medals our 2018 Primary FOBISIA team won 9 team trophies.
This is an incredible achievement and we are very proud of the children. Thank you to the parents for your support over the last 6 months and thank you to the staff who always show such enthusiasm and passion for our children’s development.
It is that time of the year when we look to celebrate the success of our amazing athletes. Currently, it is just the children that need to come to get their ticket. Mr Bob will email the parents about when they can come to get a ticket (no cost).
Well done to our 6 Mini Flames Tennis players who played in a friendly 3-way tournament at the weekend. It was great to see how much our players have developed this year and we’re looking forward to seeing these fantastic players continue to improve.
A big thank you to our STA swim team for the very first Mini Marlin Mayhem over the weekend. There were lots of smiling faces from our STA swimmers as they competed against 4 other Bangkok schools. A big thank you to the children and also our STA parents. What a fantastic day for our children.
This week our Swim Carnivals start. The children can look forward to lots of fun in the pool
With the year coming to an end, the STA gymnastics programme is in a very healthy position and looking to grow next year. We will have a further squad for our Year 1 & 2 children which is very exciting. Also, with the new BISAC opportunities, we will add further competitions to our calendar.
Over the weekend our Level 2 and 3 girls competed at the Falcons Gymnastics Competition. There were some brilliant individual performances by our STA Team. Thank you very much to the girls involved and also Miss Bogi and her team.
What a great morning our Year 5 & 6 children had at their 2018 Sports Day. The resilience, grit and determination shown by our children was in abundance. But after over 3 hours of sport in which the children worked hard to make as many points for their House, there could only be one winner, KAREN!
One of our very own swim teachers, Khun Nok, has been asked to represent Thailand at the 1st Asian Masters Swimming Championships in Japan from 12 - 16 July. Khun Nok will be swimming in the 100m. backstroke, 100m. breaststroke and relays.
You will probably see her training in the pool every morning in preparation. Being invited to represent your country is a fantastic achievement and we wish her all the best for the Championships.
This year has seen another massive increase in children playing sport within our squads and next year we are looking to continue to develop these further. Not only will we continue with our football and basketball squads but we will develop our gymnastics and dance programme. The dance trials for our new STA Dance squad will be be added soon.
