Year 10 artists at St Andrews International School Bangkok have been going back to basics and working on their tonal drawing skills.
It is usual practise for artists in Year 10 to return to foundation drawing skills. Over recent lessons students have been investigating the formal element of tone, creating beautiful drawings that demonstrate how effective using a range of light and dark pencil shades can be. In their drawings GCSE artists have chosen a variety of subjects and have recorded detail and tone with great accuracy. We have been highly impressed with the high standard of work that our young artists have produced. The work included here reflects a great commitment to the development of manual skills, as well as an understanding of how the formal elements, such as tone or texture, can communicate mood and meaning. The skills they have developed will be very useful for their upcoming trip to Jim Thompson’s House and the Bangkok Art and Culture Center on the 4 October. Artwork by Asuka, Candy, Hitanshi, Pearly and Zoe.
This week our ‘Artist of the Week’ award goes to Prae Waravenuch in 10G. Prae’s drawing of the Coliseum is accurately represented using a range of tonal values, but also uses mark-making techniques to heighten the mood and atmosphere of the subject matter. A very creative approach, well done!
At St Andrews Bangkok, we’re proud to offer the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP)—a pathway that blends academic excellence with real-world learning. Designed for students with a passion for a particular career field, the IBCP allows them to gain practical skills, IB-level academics, and global perspectives to prepare for university and beyond.
With access to career-related studies, IB Diploma courses, and personal development opportunities, our students build the confidence and experience needed to take their next steps. Whether pursuing higher education or entering the professional world, the IBCP ensures they are future-ready.
