Teaching Assistant

After graduating from University of Dundee, Scotland with both undergraduate and post graduate degrees in Architecture, I have spent the majority of the last 20 years in the construction industry. In addition, I have been a qualified swimming instructor and coach since 1996, coaching county, regional and national school swim teams. Most of my weekends and evenings (before having children) were devoted to teaching/coaching swimmers, from beginner to national competitive standard, aged 4 years to adult.

The communication skills and knowledge acquired from my roles in the construction industry, together with my experiences teaching, coaching and team managing in aquatics, have equipped me well for my new career path. However, the major influence has come from being a mum, teaching me skills I couldn’t aquire anywhere else.

I love working with children and I am very excited to have the opportunity, to devote my time, to support the learning and development of our youngest  students in the international community. Every child should have the opportunity to grow at their own rate and reach their full potential. I relish whatever part I can play in unlocking that potential and being part of the growth of the leaders and change makers of tomorrow.

I recently moved with my family to Beijing from Bangkok Thailand, following our initial decision to move overseas in 2015. My husband is a teacher at BSB and I have two children who attend school here, one in Primary and one in Secondary. Although still in their first term, they both absolutely love the school. They each have a large circle of friends, are thriving academically and actively participate in every activity offered (that they can find time to pursue). We are a very busy family, with the majority of weekends spent at various sporting events.

When we are not in the swimming pool, or on a football field, we love to go for long walks, or be at home, baking, watching movies and playing board games. I am still new to the culture of China and are keen to explore as much of the country as I can, as well as to achieve my long term goal of acquiring, at least at basic level, the language.
