Richard Adam Burkhill (2)

Year 6 Teacher

I first discovered teaching through an I.T. development and software business I created in 2005. From this inception, I then began working in a UK secondary school as a Cover Supervisor in 2010 through to Head of Department in 2014. From qualifying with a 2:1 Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Applications in 2007 I went on to gain my Post Graduate Certificate in Education in 2012 from where I have taught Digital Technology, Engineering, Information Communication / Creative Technology and Media Studies to children aged 11 – 16 years old. I have also had experience in delivering AS and A Level technology courses to young adults up to 18 years old.

On wanting to make a more widespread influence in teaching, I discovered the incredible opportunities international schools such as the British School of Beijing can offer through colleagues and a personal visit to Beijing. I am incredibly proud to be working in an environment such as BSB where this and much more is able to happen.

I was born in Boston, UK and lived in the UK all my life. I grew up and lived in a small village known as Woodhall Spa for 22 years, moved to Lincoln in 2008 and now Beijing since 2016. Throughout this time, I became involved with vintage aircraft, piano playing, golf, hospitality and catering, computing, amateur astronomy, conservation and volunteer work. I am a music, film and podcast lover with a passion for making the world a better place. To this end, I am currently setting up and promoting various projects under my envisionBetter brand including biological, educational and technological endeavours.

I see no better starting point than this international school and Beijing to teach me brand new lessons, delivering the fresh experience and perspective that can be used to help shape a better future for myself and all those around me.
