Deborah Maria Monique Chatillon (3)

French and Spanish Teacher

I studied at the University of Lille 3 and gained a Master in Humanities and Social Science with honours in Language Science in 2012. I also have a Bachelor Degree in French-History-Law and in French Literature. I decided to teach abroad after being a French assistant in Yorkshire. Indeed, I found it very rewarding to teach my Language to non-native speakers and, that is why, in 2011, I did the PGDE course at the University of Glasgow. I then taught Languages in Scottish secondary schools for five years. I orchestrated the delivery of Spanish lessons across Years 7-11 and French at Primary level - Year 13, developed the New Scottish Curriculum and tailored resources. I also conceived and, with colleagues’ support, orchestrated and implemented new assessments for different level which resulted in significantly improved educational attainment of pupils.

Prior to this role, I was a private tutor in English and French and, also for five years, I was a French Teacher at the Alliance Française of Glasgow. In this role, I delivered French lessons to adults, children, University students and Senior school students, identifying and monitoring progress of students.  Being part of the British School of Beijing is a great opportunity and as a diligent and creative French native speaker, I am looking forward to be part of the School team, sharing ideas and expertise to meet the needs of the learners.

I am from the city of Lille, in the north of France. I really like my region known for its rich culture and welcoming people. I am passionate about cinema, music, travelling, History and languages. My next project is to add German to my teaching qualification. I have also started to learn Korean and Mandarin. I enjoy travelling and never miss a chance to explore new cultures or get to know new people. I am a good walker and often enjoy hillwalking wherever I go. I love dancing and reading, which helps to maintain both my physical level and positive attitude.
