Jonathan Dancyger

Jon Dancyger

Mathematics Teacher

BSc. (Hons) Mathematics with Statistics, University of Southampton

PGCE Secondary Mathematics, University of Southampton

Jon started his teaching career in 2005, working in a comprehensive school in Southampton. After three years he moved to his first international position in the Bahamas, where he stayed for two and a half years. Following this, Jon then moved to a British international school in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where he stayed for five and a half years. During his time in Vietnam, Jon worked as a Head of Year for three years and Head of Mathematics for two years. Throughout his career, Jon has taught Year 7 to Year 13 classes and the full range of abilities, up to and including A-Level Further Mathematics.

Jon joined BISB in August 2016.

Jon is a firm believer that mathematics is a subject to be enjoyed rather than endured. He tries to foster an enthusiasm for mathematics through discovery and application, so students see relevance in the applied topics, and intrinsic beauty in the more pure topics. In the classroom, Jon’s main ambition is that all students understand what they are doing, rather than just performing a series of steps to solve a problem. It is with this understanding that Jon believes students make best progress and become adaptable mathematicians.

When not working, Jon enjoys playing football, badminton and squash, as well as SCUBA diving during holidays. He is also a keen reader with particular interests in popular science and recreational mathematics.
