Douglas Allan

Douglas Allen

EAL (English as an Additional Language) Teacher

BA English and Music, University of Stirling

Diploma in Secondary Education, University of Stirling

MEd TTELT, University of Exeter

Assistant Examiner, Cambridge University International Examinations

Douglas has committed his whole professional life to learning and teaching. He has more than 25 years’ experience (English, EAL, PSHE, Social Studies) in a variety of institutions including primary and secondary schools, and tertiary institutions in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe. Moreover, he has a successful track record in leadership and developing new competencies in teachers being National INSET Adviser for the Hungarian Ministry of Education from 1994 to 2000, and Regional Teacher Trainer for Pearson 2000 to 2006.

Douglas joined NAE at BISB in 2010 and has taught across the school both in Primary and Secondary. He currently focuses his teaching on IGCSE English and English A in the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

First and foremost Douglas is a teacher who enjoys the classroom and interaction with students. He believes that authentic relationships are the basis of an outstanding educational experience and that an effective learning environment must take into account the well-being of the students, as well as their academic ambitions. The cornerstones of his educational philosophy include autonomy for the learner, collaboration and a task-based approach to learning.

In his spare time, Douglas can usually be found at Lake Balaton where a very old cottage and garden keep him occupied.
