Each week we will feature a member of our community across all areas of the school including students, teachers, parents, support staff and more, to get to know members of our family a little better. If you would like to be featured, please email: newsletters@bisad.ae.
Name and a little bit about you:

Hi, I’m James East. I moved over to the UAE for the first time this summer from the UK and have really enjoyed my experiences so far. I have been teaching for 13 years in UK schools and this is my first position abroad.

Where is “home” for you?

My home is in the Southeast of England. I went to school and grew up in East Grinstead, however I was living in nearby Crawley before I left.

What do you do in Abu Dhabi?

Work wise I am a History teacher at BIS Abu Dhabi. Outside of school I spend my time making sure my toddler doesn’t run around causing too much trouble!

What brought your family to Abu Dhabi?

I came over to Abu Dhabi because I wanted to work in one of the best International Schools and to experience life and culture living in a different part of the world. I know Abu Dhabi to be a family friendly place with lots of outdoor activities which my wife and myself are very much looking forward to exploring as the weather cools down a little! I have a young daughter who I am sure will love the pools and beaches.

What is your favourite thing about being a part of the BIS Abu Dhabi community?

The first thing I noticed is how helpful and supportive my colleagues and neighbours have been. Everyone has given support, advice and generally helped us settle which has been amazing.

What tips or advice would you give to new families joining BIS Abu Dhabi?

This is a difficult one as we’ve not had lots of time to go and explore because the temperatures have been so hot! Getting a car early is important, being able to drive to places is important as the city is really big!

What do you enjoy most about living in Abu Dhabi?

My favourite thing about Abu Dhabi so far, apart from warmth of the people here is the warmth from the sun! Although it is too hot to be outside for too long the feel of the sun as I leave work and come home is amazing. It’s something that you don’t really get in the UK.

I’m looking forward to exploring the city more as the weather cools, I feel that I’ve not had much of a chance so far.
