Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) has become the world’s most popular international qualification for students aged 14-16-year-old as it is taken in over 145 countries and taught by over 5500 schools worldwide. BIS Hanoi has offered IGCSE to their students since 2014 and this year, received impressive results of 92.4% pass rate with 46.5% of grades being achieved at A*/A level.

Developed by University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), IGCSE is widely accepted and recognised by higher education institutions and employers across the globe. The qualifications are based on individual subjects of study with typical core subjects include a First Language, Second Language, Mathematics and at least one more subject in the Sciences.

‘The IGCSE curriculum offers more options than any other international curriculum. At BIS, we offer a balanced curriculum that features a diverse selection of subjects including English, Maths, Science, Computer Science, History, Geography, Modern Foreign Languages, Business Studies, Art & Design, Music, Drama and Physical Education. The broad selection of subjects means that not only can students choose the subjects that interest them, but each student will also be well prepared for the next step of their education journey,’ said Rachel Stevenson, Head of Key Stage 4 (Year 10 & 11) and IGCSE Coordinator at BIS Hanoi.

IGCSE is proven to improve student performance by developing skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving and its qualifications are accepted and valued by many leading universities around the world. While attending the BIS Hanoi IGCSE Award Ceremony, hosted by British Ambassador Gareth Ward at his Residence, Dr. Ben Schmidt, Regional Director for Cambridge Assessment International Education said, “IGCSE is the best preparation that young people could take for universities and beyond”.

The IGCSE Award Ceremony was recently held at the British Ambassador’s Residence where parents, teachers and special guests attended to celebrate the achievements of 44 students. Tim Webb, Head of Secondary at BIS Hanoi said, ‘I am extremely proud of the hard work that our teachers and students put in to achieve these impressive results of a 92.4% pass rate with 46.5% being A*/A level. This is well above the average UK pass rate of 72%. Special praise must be given to two students, Hoang Hai Ha and Vu Duc Hang Giang, for achieving a perfect 100% score and therefore, ‘Top in the World’ mark for their IGCSE Mathematics papers. This is quite incredible considering that over 45,000 students across the world took that particular exam.’

During his speech to parents, teachers and students at the ceremony, Ambassador Ward said, “The future is bright for Vietnamese children, especially when they’re getting amazing results at BIS Hanoi with IGCSE”.

BIS Hanoi is part of Nord Anglia Education, a family of 66 premium international schools across 29 countries offering personalised and dedicated learning to 64,000 students from 2 to 18 years old.
