How members of the BIS Hanoi Audio Book Club brought Korean folk tales to a new Audience As we come to the end of Term 1, we can reflect not just on the outstanding learning that has taken place, but also on the fantastic experiences that students have enjoyed as part of their Extra Curricular Activities (ECAs).

As we come to the end of Term 1, we can reflect not just on the outstanding learning that has taken place, but also on the fantastic experiences that students have enjoyed as part of their Extra Curricular Activities (ECAs).

Students had a wide range of ECAs to choose from as part of the Virtual School Experience. One popular ECA was the Korean Audio Book Club - where students came together to create an audio book which aimed to share traditional Korean folk stories with younger students in Year 5.

On Tuesday 14th December, the Korean Audio Book Club presented the finished audio book to over 100 students in Year 5. Members of the club explained how they collaborated in an online environment to produce the audio book, before sharing its contents with the Year 5 students.

To achieve their aim of making the audio book engaging for younger Students, the Korean Audio Book Club made use of sound effects, images and even English subtitles. These thoughtful additions helped the Year 5 students, many of whom are not native Korean speakers, to understand the stories and to grasp the settings, context and the meanings behind them.

The response to the audio book showcase was overwhelmingly positive and the project was a great success for the Korean Audio Book Club ECA and its members. We’d like to thank our teachers (Ms Song, Ms Goodwin, and Ms Bearne) for actively contributing to our ideas and helping us to achieve our aims. It was a valuable and rewarding experience for us all.
