IB VISUAL ARTS EXHIBITION 2023

Ib visual arts exhibition 2023

Join us at The World ArtSpace as our IB Visual Art students showcase their extraordinary final pieces. Unusually this year we have an all-female group of 7 artists taking IB Visual Arts at higher level. Their work spans themes across the ego, gender inequality, the maturation of self and isolation during the pandemic. Our artists have formed pieces in a variety of mediums from oils, to sculpture and photography. The exhibition will run from Monday 17th to Thursday 20th April, with the opening night being a private event for the student artists, their families and our teachers.

The remaining days from Tuesday 18th to Thursday 20th April are open to the public and we invite you to join us to discover the exceptional work of our IB Visual Art students from 2023.

HaEun
HaEun uses imagery of nature to explore her own identity development and the challenges she has had growing up. Her work is creatively thought out including a piece that is purposefully layered to hinder the view of the audience to represent the idea that we constantly view others from our own perspective and through layers of bias.

Vivian
Vivian explores themes of isolation during the Covid-19 pandemic, focusing on the struggles of her own family through emotive portraits. Interestingly, some of her pieces were intentionally left unfinished to represent the loss of identity due to the restrictions and isolation of lockdown.

Lilo
Lilo’s work focuses on the nostalgia and memories of her home country and how growing up away from home has helped develop her identity. She explores her own internal conflict and the struggle of adapting to a new culture and way of life.

Edie
Edie’s work is a journey that starts with an exploration of vulnerability and slowly moves through forms of coping mechanisms and how ego is portrayed on the outside, to a complex idea of power through the exploration of gender and gender fluidity.

Purpy
Purpy uses layering and texture to evoke a realisation of the complexities of gender inequality and oppression. Using a variety of materials including plywood, tape and sculpture, she aims to motivate and remind people of how society has normalised the inequalities of everyday life.

Susu
Susu reminisces on the key stages of her own childhood memories from infancy to young adulthood, intertwining them with interactions of those that have shaped her. One such interaction was with  a young orphan who was able to create his own sense of home despite his lack of familial love and relationships, through his innocent action of placing a cardboard box above his head.

Kathy
Kathy uses angles to depict the twisted perspective of women under the influence of society's beauty standards. Her pieces start with the concept of beauty and how social expectations are formed, and takes you on a journey of self-love and acceptance.
