BISB formed a library advisory committee at the start of the school year to begin developing plans to make changes to the library space and its function in the school commuity.
The committee, made up of teachers, administrators and parents, is still hard at work continuing this development, but students and staff were able this week to see some of the results of their hard work.
A dedicated group of parents worked throughout the fall term to go through the school's collection of books, removing those copies rarely used by students and reorganizing shelves to make it easier for students to find the books they want.
A new layout of shelves and the removal of the former check-out counter has opened up the library space, providing more room for small reading corners with stools and bean bags, as well as a wide open group reading area and work area.
Books are now categorized not only by age-level and author, but by genre and special interests. Students looking for a classic, for example, can head to the "Classics" section, while those searching for a book guaranteed to be a good read can visit the "Award Winning" section.
The school is so grateful to the dedicated parents who have made these changes possible and who continue to volunteer in the library. Special thanks goes to parents Leada Sarram and Geri Sheehan, who have spent hours in the library throughout the fall and winter to make the makeover possible.
