ANALYZING AND SUMMARIZING
BISB_Boston_Nov 2022_260
REPRESENTING WHAT WE SEE
In the calm environment of art class, we’ll use acrylic paint to sketch out and then paint in detail “still life” objects arranged throughout the studio. We’re challenged to really see and represent what’s in front of us — using color, shape, tone, and texture.
PAINTING AND UNDERSTANDING

SCIENTIFIC FINDINGS
When we’re in our science lab, using the pH scale, we’ll work together to explore the difference between an acid and an alkali. We’ll discuss neutralization and some of its applications, then present our findings to the rest of our group.
TESTING AND RECORDING

BASKETBALL DEFENSE
In Physical Education, we’ll prepare for a game of basketball by running through drills on defensive strategy. Once we’re in a game scenario, we confidently block our opponents and react quickly to offensive bursts.

USING FRACTIONS

CREATING APPS
We’ll work in pairs in Computer Science, using the colorful, free, open-source software “Blockly” to create our own programs — kind of like building scaffolding that gets more and more complex. By the end of the unit, we finish our “building” and publish our own app!
CODING, BLOCK BY BLOCK

HOW WE TEACH

PERSONALIZED LEARNING

We encourage a “learning focused” environment, rather than a teaching focused one, at BISB. This means we put the emphasis on the learner’s interests, needs, and goals, as they become the driver of their own plans and future.

Our talented teachers are their continual guides. They meet every child where they are in their journey — no matter where they start — supporting and challenging them in equal measure. This leads to a highly personalized, specific feedback for their next steps.

LEARNING FROM THE BEST

Our teachers have all come to British International School of Boston with extensive experience in the UK, internationally, and in the US. They use this experience to deliver the highest quality, personalized lessons for our students' academic success in a globalized context. Arriving from the UK, they're trained to instruct with differentiation as part of their qualification — bringing this approach to our classrooms so every child's learning journey is as unique as they are. Our teachers are passionate about inspiring each child's love for learning from a young age, and until the day students graduate, they nurture the skills of ambitious, confident global citizens.

As a commitment to their practice, our teachers are also always undergoing professional development to enhance their skills and stay at the forefront of global education. Through Nord Anglia University (NAU), for example, they access world-class trainings and resources that align with their performance reviews.
