This month, a new online mathematics learning resource, Manga High, has been rolling out to mathematics classes from Years 1 to 11. Manga High is a games-based mathematics learning website where students learn via multiple-choice quizzes and games set by their teacher.
Many students at the school have already used the site during lessons, and have completed challenges for homework and revision. Several students even do optional challenges and play games such as Bidmas Blaster and Piñata Fever just for fun! (Surely that’s more productive than playing the PS4?)
As students complete challenges they earn virtual medals – Bronze, Silver or Gold, based on the number of correct answers. Questions are adapted to the individual student depending on how well they are doing.
To encourage healthy competition, there are leaderboards for each challenge as well medal tables for the whole school. This month’s star performer is Arlan Abzhanov, with 6 gold medals.
Last week, BISB was ranked the 17th highest school in the US and Canada for our students' work on Manga High. Let’s go for #1!
