The Boston private school hosted an exhibit of student art in one of the museum's gallery, the culmination of a month-long program called Arts April.
Arts April was the result of a new partnership between the British International School of Boston and the MFA, bringing students into the museum to view a painting by David Hockney, "Garrowby Hill", and then encouraging students and staff to use the piece to inform their lessons and inspire their art work.
Throughout the month of April, students throughout all year groups created amazing art inspired by their trip to the MFA. From paintings and sketches to photographs, sculptures and 3-D canvases, the students were clearly inspired by the Hockney painting.
The exhibit drew more than 350 students, staff and family members to the MFA, where attendees visited the art gallery and particpated in two tours of another museum gallery, led by BISB student docents.
The students, ranging in age from 8 to 13 years old, trained for three weeks to prepare to serve as a museum docent, selecting a piece of art and learning about the artist who created it. On Sunday, the students led discussions about the art for BISB families, and were happy to test their knowledge in front of the crowds.
A huge thanks to all of our families who attended the exhibit on Sunday. It was a fantastic celebration of our students and staff, and the learning they do in their classes every day.
