My name is Rikke Ermgassen and I am Athletic Director and and Head of PE here at BISB. As you can probably tell from my name I am half Danish and half German but I was brought up (mainly) in the UK. My international background is a key part of my identity, and I love and appreciate the diversity and multiculturism of our world. I am a passionate educator, who believes in creating positive experiences and wide-ranging opportunities for all students. I believe Physical Education is about more than school, it is also about preparing students for an ever-changing world and ensuring that they have the ability to manage both their physical and mental health throughout their life. Physical Education and extra- curricular physical activities play key roles in creating well-rounded, confident, healthy and happy young men and women and I look forward to developing the whole school programme to support this. I studied Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Bath before undertaking my teacher training at the University of Exeter and my MSc in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Public Health at the University of Bristol. Learning is a key part of my life and I look forward to continuing that journey here in the academically vibrant city of Boston. My career has led me to work in a variety of different schools around the UK; state, special needs, private, day and boarding where I have had the privilege of undertaking a wide range of responsibilities. Most recently, for the last six years, I have worked in Bangkok as one of the Heads of Sixth Form at Shrewsbury International School and prior to that I was Head of Girls’ Games and Head of PE at Fettes College, Edinburgh. I am a keen athlete, walker and cycle tourer and I like to spend most of my free time and holidays outdoors exploring. I already have a list of states and routes I would like to visit and am always looking for recommendations! On top of this I am a keen artist and enjoy visiting galleries as well as creating pieces in the ceramics studio.
