Our students are eager to innovate. In our STEAM corridor, our students are immersed in our tech hub of equipment—from green screens for filmmaking to robotics equipment—blended into their learning experiences. Teachers also make connections through our global family of schools, including our collaborations with MIT, UNICEF, and The Juilliard School. We also continually stimulate our students through Global Campus, our online learning platform, where students connect and collaborate with peers from around the world.

PRE-NURSERY

At BISC-LP, our young students learn from a combination of the National Curriculum for England and age-appropriate international educational frameworks, based on the best of global academics. High-quality education and a nurturing environment are the building blocks of future success, and we start putting them together from an early age. Our curricula see children of all ages engaging in specialist lessons like Modern Foreign Languages, STEAM subjects, performing arts and athletics, giving them a rounded education. This method of learning encourages critical and lateral thinking—skills your child will use for the rest of their lives.

15 to 36 months old

Carefully designed by professional early years educators, our Pre-Nursery program sets the foundation for future success through specialist lessons and foundational academic skills like motor skills and phonics.

Our students in Years 1 to 6 follow a blend of English National Curriculum and International Primary Curriculum (IPC), which is modified on a continual basis to give students the right amount of challenge and support. This combination prepares children for the world of tomorrow by nurturing their strengths, encouraging their progress and championing creativity. A TYPICAL DAY AT BISC Lincoln Park

With inspiring curricula, dynamic learning spaces and world-class teachers, no two days are the same at the British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park.
Morning Care
Our youngest students can join us from 7:00 a.m., but registration takes place at 8:30 a.m. Our little ones are gently welcomed to the school day and prepared for the play-based learning time they’ll enjoy. An open-door policy means you can drop your child right to the classroom and even stop for a chat with their teacher.
Morning Care
Circle Time
Circle Time is a chance for Pre-Nursery children to spend time on the carpet with classmates, singing songs and going through the schedule for the day.
Circle Time
Specialist Lessons
In the morning, young students might be introduced to specialist lessons like Spanish, French, dance, music, drama or STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) lessons–giving them their first taste of structured learning.
Specialist Lessons
Come Outdoors
To make sure our little ones get as much time as they can outside, we take them on a morning walk while discussing topics like the changing seasons or listening for sounds in the neighborhood.
Come Outdoors
Lunch Time and Nap Time
Whatever age they’re at, students at BISC-LP get a healthy, nutritious lunch. Afterwards, our littlest learners take a nap to recharge for the afternoon.

Child-Initiated Afternoons
In the afternoon, our little ones might enjoy child-initiated time, which helps them improve communication, and emotional and physical development. Teachers create areas of the classroom focusing on specific skills for your child like listening and speaking, building relationships, and developing their motor skills.
Child-Initiated Afternoons
After Care
We can provide care for children up to 6:30 pm. We want to make sure your experience at BISC-LP is as seamless as possible, which is why we keep our doors open to support working parents.

EARLY YEARS

With inspiring curricula, dynamic learning spaces and world-class teachers, no two days are the same at the British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park.
Arrival
Early Years students take attendance at 8:30 a.m. Afterwards, they might take part in child-initiated time, focusing on communication and language, personal, social and emotional development and physical development. They’ll do this in a play-based environment, which encourages the improvement of foundational academic skills. Children usually then move on to Circle Time and a snack.
Arrival
Morning Play
Your child’s day might then develop with P.E. or dance lessons, taught by highly trained specialist teachers in purpose-built classrooms. Through the morning, they might also explore music lessons and introductions to STEAM subjects.
Morning Play
Healthy Eating
Lunch takes place at 11:30 a.m. Our children have access to age-appropriate, nutritious meals which help them to refuel before an afternoon which could include phonics, Spanish lessons or a trip to the library.
Healthy Eating
Afternoon Learning
In the afternoon, children move on to activities like physical development. We aim for our children to spend time outside running and playing daily. We have outside play spaces, as well as large indoor playgrounds, to support the need to be physically active and to ensure proper gross motor skills are developed. Students get the opportunity to play outside more than once a day—usually accompanied by a healthy snack to keep up their energy levels and focus.
Afternoon Learning
More Fun!
Our school hours support a working parent schedule and we run a large variety of enrichment classes after school to both extend the children’s interests and support childcare needs. There are options such as soccer, Mandarin, cooking, dance and music lessons. Children can stay at school right up to 6:30 pm. if needed.

Names and Faces
For primary-aged students, registration takes place at 8:30 am. They might then go into a whole school assembly, or straight into morning lessons.

Full STEAM Ahead
In the mornings, students at BISC-LP might encounter STEAM lessons––that's science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics. Or they might continue learning a foreign language: French or Spanish. Whatever it is they’re doing, children always have fun and are challenged in morning lessons.
Full STEAM Ahead
Rooftop Recess
One of our calling cards is our rooftop playground, which gives your child the space to experience some time outdoors. They can burn off any restless energy they might have to get them focused for late morning classes which could include a topic lesson: each topic gives us a platform to create lessons with a global focus––a topic such as “Rainforests” could take us to both Southeast Asia and South America. Lessons across multiple subject areas will then be linked within that theme.
Rooftop Recess
Late Morning Learning
Students could experience more STEAM lessons, or other core subjects like literacy. Our early years approach is phonics-based. This allows students to develop literacy skills at a young age. We build on this foundation and continue to develop comprehension, fluency and a love of reading as they move through the primary years. They'll also progress their writing skills by learning the technical aspects, as well as how to write creatively.
Late Morning Learning
Lunchtime
Between 12-1:00 pm, alongside their friends, students enjoy a nutritious lunch prepared by our onsite catering team, followed by playtime on the roof. This could be a warm-up for afternoon performing arts––which include dance, drama, and music, and is backed up by our partnership with the Juilliard School.
Lunchtime
Afternoon
When they’ve eaten and spent time exercising, refreshed students could take part in off-site games, preparing them for the world of varsity sports with our own version, in which students can learn the value of sportsmanship through inter-House competition. They might take a trip to our wonderful library and borrow a book or get a head start on their homework. On Fridays, students end the day with an assembly.
Afternoon
After Hours
Primary students can enjoy a whole host of extra-curricular activities––from STEAM-based projects to alternate language lessons in Mandarin. They can take part in school sports activities, representing the school in a variety of sports, and every single activity is designed to give our students a sense of pride in their school.
